The History Of

Karate

Karate, the Japanese word for “empty hands,” was born in the Okinawan Islands as a form of self defence at a time when weapons were banned by invading Japanese forces.

It is a self defence system that combines fast, direct techniques with great power, generated through body mechanics.

This fighting style was used by the natives of the Ryukyu Islands and was later influenced by Chinese kenpō, introduced through the Chinese families that settled on Okinawa after trade relationships between China and the islands were established.

Jordan Thomas

Jordan Thomas has been involved in the art of Karate at the highest level for many years now. His biggest achievements was in 2014 when he became the European Champion and then in 2016 his biggest to date, becoming World Champion.

Yet, this journey was almost over before it had begun after a terrible accident at the age of two years old. He snapped his femur and was told that he would never walk again. Later, he was given advice to go into sport as part of his recovery. Karate seemed the perfect fit for his rehab. His great determination and spirit to never quit helped his healing process and incredibly, he became a World Champion in the art.

His focus now is to help the next generation of young fighters achieve their goals as well.
