Jujitsu

The History Of

Jujitsu

Although its origins can arguably be traced to the Buddhist monks of India, Jujitsu in its modern form comes from Japan, where an early form of Jujitsu was developed for use on the field of battle by Japanese Samurai.

These warriors, who engaged in armed battles on horseback, developed Jujitsu as the last line of defense in the event that they found themselves disarmed and afoot.

However, the heavy armour worn by the Samurai restricted their mobility, making chokes, joint locks and throwing techniques more effective against opponents.

Jujitsu has evolved even further since then, adding kicks, knees, elbow strikes, grappling and striking techniques so it’s more effective for self defense purposes for our present day.
